TEACHING PRACTICE - WEEK 2

Image
The second week of teaching practice seemed to be better than the previous week, as I got ideas about the working environment of the school as well as about class management. This week we student teachers were caught up with duties of sports day and science exhibition. I took a leave on sports day (27/08/2024) due to a severe fever. On the next working day, the school arranged a science exhibition where students got an opportunity to exhibit various experiments. The exhibition was inaugurated by HM of the school. The students from LP to HS participated in a science exhibition. Me along with other student teachers cleaned and arranged the venue for the exhibition. The exhibition was evaluated by teachers of the school. Through these two events, we student teachers are actively involved in helping the school to systematically arrange the exhibition to evaluate students performance. Every day we helped students by distributing food through the midday meal program to ensure all stude...

TEACHING PRACTICE - WEEK 1

Image
The forty-day teaching practice began on 21st August 2024 as part of the B.Ed. curriculum. I was accompanied by other students from various optional subjects. As a student teacher, I felt a bit anxious about class management. I was extremely worried about students cooperation while taking the class. To be a good teacher, I practiced thoroughly according to the lesson plan prior to taking classes to ensure an effective teaching and learning process.  First day (21/08/2024): I started my class with nervousness as I was afraid about time management and class management. However, I wasn't able to manage time properly. The students were totally restless throughout class. This made me stressed out to a great extent. I actively involved myself in the midday meal program to distribute food for the students. I got a few substitution periods where I gave notes prepared by their teacher. During the evening, we student teachers had to ensure each and every student left school safely....

CRITICISM CLASS REFLECTION

Image
A criticism class is vital in the educational journey of B.Ed. students for varied reasons. It equips future educators with the necessary skills to excel in their profession. It ensures that future educators are well- equipped to foster an environment of continuous improvement and positive communication. It prepares student teachers to be effective, reflective, and resilient educators. Criticism classes were organized by our college on 26/06/2024 and 27/06/2024 to get feedback from teachers, educators, and peer groups to improve the process of teaching.  I took a criticism class on 26th June 2024. The class was based on the Advance Organizer Model of teaching to teach grammar. I chose the topic of pronouns to teach in class. I wrote the lesson plan in a well-organized, systematic manner, arranging learning outcomes according to the level of the learners. I felt my class was effective as a whole, but I cannot deny that it lacked in many aspects. The feedback I received fro...

Field trips play a significant role in the educational experience, offering benefits that extend beyond the traditional classroom setting. Field trips provide experiential learning, helping to solidify theoretical knowledge through real-world experiences. It is a vital component of education, offering a wealth of benefits that enhance academic learning, social development, and personal growth. As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, our college organized a trip to Kerala Arts and Crafts Village, Vellar, on February 16th, 2024. Visiting Kerala Arts and Crafts Village holds particular importance due to its unique offerings and cultural significance. KACV is a center for art, culture, and entertainment. This village celebrates the rich and diverse craft traditions of South Asia. It provides an opportunity for artists to showcase and sell their crafts. FIELD TRIP - Kerala Legislative Assembly

Image
In a field visit, the process of learning takes place through direct observation of real-world objects, places, natural events, and other relevant information during the visit. Field trips often offer students a unique opportunity to learn through hands-on experience. As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, our college arranged a visit to the Kerala Legislative Assembly to get an idea about the Legislative Assembly and its historical relevance. We also got an opportunity to participate in the KLIBF book festival. I visited many bookstalls, which helped me understand different genres of books available across many languages. This book festival benefits students to buy books to create reading habit to enhance language skills and gain knowledge by analyzing varied perspectives of different writers.

VIDEO SCRIPT

As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, we, the students of English optional at BNVCTE, have done a video on "Horegallu" by Sudha Murthy, who is an Indian educator, author, and philanthropist. She is known for her down-to-earth, socially conscious writing. A horegallu is a stone bench, a place for consolation and comfort for travelers. Our team contained seven members. We named our team BLACK FRIARS.                                                  The team BLACK FRIARS chose  Horegallu  by Sudha Murthy as the story delivers a very strong message for the readers that everyone carries their loads the best they can, given their circumstances and capabilities. The story invites readers to consider the ways they can contribute to the well-being of their communities, reminding us that sometimes, just being there and listening can make all the difference. DISCUSSION LESSON PLAN

As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, we students were divided into three groups to discuss and share ideas on lesson plans. Discussion lessons are essential for developing a range of skills crucial for effective teaching, as they enhance critical thinking by encouraging student teachers to explore different perspectives. The main goal is to foster interactive learning, making the educational experience more engaging. By actively participating in discussions, student teachers practice articulating their ideas, asking probing questions, and listening to others. This interactive approach not only deepens their understanding but also hones their communication skills, which are fundamental for effective teaching. It benefits students to get immediate feedback and reflection, which helps them assess their own understanding and refine their teaching strategies. It also provides an opportunity for student teachers to support collaborative learning, where student teachers can learn from their...

SUPW

Image
Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) is crucial in education as it bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application. SUPW fosters practical skill development while simultaneously promoting a sense of social responsibility. SUPW supports the process of education by integrating intellectual and practical experiences, enhancing students’ work ethic, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. It helps to build a more holistic educational experience that benefits both their students and their own professional growth.     For the purpose of SUPW, I chose to make a cloth bag from the cloth material that was available at my home. The use of plastic bags has increased over the past few decades. It has caused more severe damage to our mother earth than anyone could ever imagine. To bring about a change in the world by reducing the use of plastic bags, it is necessary to switch to cloth bags. Unlike plastic bags, cloth bags are biodegradable and can decompose...
